Acne therapies for clearer skin

New age therapies like blue light therapy, diode laser therapy, chemical peels and Microderambrasion are being increasingly used for acne treatment. Patients also have the option to combine two or more acne therapies for clearer skin.

The principle behind these therapies is that acne can be controlled by reducing sebum production in the body and clearing the toxic residue that accumulates within the skin pores. Since most of these therapies have bactericidal effects also they destroy the harmful bacteria that are responsible for acne.

A popular therapy is light or laser therapy. It reduces acne and removes acne scars. The laser can penetrate the deeper layers of the skin without damaging the outer lining of the skin or epidermis. It helps curing acne related problems by shrinking the size of the sebaceous glands and by killing the bacterial species P.acnes that is most commonly associated with acne inflammations. Laser therapy also improves the texture of the skin, and is most useful for people who are suffering from mild to moderate acne.

Blue light therapy is another therapy that is becoming popular. Each session of the therapy runs for a maximum of 15 minutes. Several sessions are required to achieve good results. Slight dryness and redness of the skin can be experienced after the procedure is completed. A combination of low heat and pulses of yellow green light has also been found to be effective in treating acne.

Acne sufferers can also opt for chemical peel treatment to reduce acne breakouts. These are also known as acid peels and are generally painless. They are mostly done in concert with other forms of acne treatment procedures.

Besides this, acne sufferers can use glycolic acid, lactic acid or salicylic acid. These chemicals remove the dead skin cells and cleanse the pores. Simultaneously they tighten up the skin pores and reduce the appearance of scars. It is important that a professional carries out this procedure because there can be side effects like mild dryness and redness of skin to severe blistering and cracking up of the skin.

Microderambrasion is another therapy that is gaining popularity. In this therapy, crystals are blown on the face of the acne patient. A brush is then used to sweep the face gently. The crystals act as an exfoliating device and clear the skin. Trained specialists or doctors should perform this therapy to avoid side effects.
