The Best Acne Treatments, what are they?

There are too many acne fighting products on the market to count, and the majority of them simply do not work. However, there are some that do work quite well. The problem is that many people who suffer from acne will spend quite a bit of time and money trying to find the best acne treatments. Teenagers often outgrow acne before they find a treatment that works.

One of the better acne treatments on the market today is ProActiv. ProActiv seems to be helping many people who could not find other solutions that worked. It has been featured on infomercials, news stories, magazine articles, and newspaper articles. Proactiv is a system that includes a renewing cleanser, revitalizing toner, and repairing lotion. Prescription grade benzoyl peroxide is the active ingredient in ProActiv. ProActiv does not require a prescription.

review from Amazon.com:"Both my self and my daughter have been using this combination for the last 4 months and it has worked well for the both of us."

A treatment that is available by prescription is Accutane. Accutane is a very strong medication, that is only suitable for those who suffer from severe and persistent acne. The medication is taken internally, and there are possible side effects, including birth defects, dry and cracked lips, and liver dysfunction.

Another one of that is used topically is retin-a. Many people have had great success with retin-a, which is used to treat acne, acne scars, wrinkles, stretch marks, skin discoloration, and a variety of other skin afflictions. Retin-a is available by prescription, but some over the counter medications contain retin-a.

Not all treatments come in the form of chemicals. Certain essential oils are also beneficial in the treatment of acne. These essential oils can be applied topically for the treatment of mild to moderate acne. The best essential oils for acne treatment are: Tea Tree Oil, Bergamot Oil, Clove Oil, Lavender Oil, and Rosewood Oil. If the essential oil needs to be diluted, mix it with Grapeseed Oil for best results.

In order to find the best acne treatment for you, start with essential oils. If that doesn't work, go to the next step by trying ProActive. If ProActive doesn't work, then try a prescription alternative. You may also consider being tested for food allergies, as certain allergies can cause acne. In this case, the only treatment you need is to eliminate those certain foods from your diet.

  • Finding Isotretinoin Online Easy, Study Shows

Here's some scary info for you: finding isotretinoin online, no prescription needed, is fairly easy. This is according to a recent study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.

Researchers did simple Google internet searches for "no prescription Accutane." Of the websites found, 66% were what researchers characterized as "illicit commercial," or sites from where isotretinoin could be purchased no prescription needed. In comparison, on 2% were U.S. licensed pharmacies which required prescription before purchase.

This seems to support what I have observed. Many clients of mine have asked for my opinion of these types of sites. I've always told them the same thing -- stay away!

As of yet, I've written several blog posts about the dangers of buying Accutane online, and this one probably won't be my last. I'm so vocal about this topic because, honestly, it terrifies me. I keep thinking of the high school kid who doesn't know any better, the adult acne sufferer who is without insurance but desperate to find something to help.

When you have acne, you're desperate to find a treatment that works. And for years, Accutane has been considered the gold standard for acne treatment. It's tempting to try buying it online.

There are many dangers of buying isotretinoin online. The website may send you phony isotretinoin (care to put a mystery drug into your body?) They may take your money and run.

If you do manage to get the genuine article, your health is still at risk. Isotretinoin use comes with many possible side effects, and some are very serious. People using isotretinoin must be monitored by their doctors and submit to regular blood tests to ensure everything is

So, again, please stay away from these sites. Parents, be aware that these sites are out there, and educate your teens on the dangers of buying any medication online.

If isotretinoin is something you want to try, talk to your doctor. He or she will let you know if it's an option for you. Your doc can suggest other acne treatment options, too.

  • All About Acanya

Acanya Gel is a fairly new acne medication, a combo of clindamycin phosphate and benzoyl peroxide. It's approved to treat mild to severe cases of acne in people over 12.

Many people like the consistency of the gel -- it's water-based and absorbs easily. It's also alcohol-free so you don't get that alcohol "burn" when you apply it.

You do need a prescription for Acanya, and it's not a good choice for everyone. But if you're really intrigued by the option, you can ask your doctor if it might be a fit for you.

  • Albert M. Kligman, M.D., Developer of Retin-A, Has Passed Away

Albert M. Kligman, M.D., the dermatologist who developed the acne medication Retin-A, has died.

Much of what we know about the development of acne vulgaris is thanks to the work of Dr. Kligman. During his lengthy career, Dr. Kligman also developed the anti-wrinkle medication Renova, disproved the idea that chocolate causes acne, and extensively researched the sun's affect on the skin.

Dr. Kligman worked for the University of Pennsylvania for 50 years. He was 93 years old.

  • What's The Worst Advice You've Received?

When I was a kid (eons ago, according to my children) the most widely-recommended acne treatment products were Stridex pads. They burned, they dried the skin out terribly and, at least for me, didn't work one bit. I still shudder when I see them on the store shelves. I know some people swear by them, but thanks to that early experience I still absolutely hate Stridex pads.

That was nothing compared to the advice my husband received. His grandparents actually suggested he take sandpaper to his face to break open all the pimples, and then bathe his face in rubbing alcohol. Yikes! Thank goodness he never actually tried it.

When it comes to acne, seems everyone has advice. Sometimes it's good and helpful and other times... not so much. What's the worst advice you've every received? Share with us in the acne forum.

  • How Consistent Are You?

My kids spent the long President's Day weekend at their grandparent's house. They love going to Grandma's and Grandpa's place -- no chores, pizza whenever they feel like, and all the video games and TV they like. Three whole days of non-stop fun. It's like Disneyland without the mouse and the rides.

When they returned home, though, I could tell my teenage son had not been consistently using his acne cleanser. (Am I kidding myself to think he used it all all while he was gone?) Even those few days of not using the treatment, and I could see a difference in his skin.

I'm constantly reminding all my clients how important consistency is when treating acne, so much so that I must sound like a broken record. Or I'm becoming very, very annoying.

But to really see results, you can't skip days. You can't forget to take your antibiotics. You can't be too tired to cleanse your face at night. Consistency is so important.

How consistent are you when it comes to your acne treatments? Take the poll, then share how you remember to use your acne treatments even on those busy days.
